As gardeners and garden designers, our office is our clients’ gardens. Every day, we are out and about transforming gardens and creating beautiful sanctuaries which bring endless joy. Getting together when we are working across Essex and Suffolk can be difficult. However, we have now staged our first team building day and it was an outstanding success.
Our team has been growing but we are always so busy out and about that we rarely get a chance to meet up. Garden designer and MD, Wendy Smith, thought it was important to hold a team building day, to give The Plantsmith team a chance to get together, to take stock and to cement the foundations of the business.
The day started out with some health and safety advice especially about working in the extreme heat as the mercury hits new heights on the thermometer. Garden design expert, Karen, then presented the rest of the team with an inactive talk on the use of colour in garden design.
Wendy said: “Our gardens are carefully designed but our gardeners can find themselves reacting while on the job, responding to clients’ requests when they are on-site or moving plants around. Karen created a terrific interactive session using a colour wheel and got the gardeners to undertake their own mini design project.
“There was also discussion around the different heights and textures of plants and how they fit together. There was a real buzz about the day. It created an opportunity for everyone to get together, to work with each other and to share ideas”.
Wendy added: “As gardeners we are used to growing and tending plants but it was important for us to meet and share ideas so we can grow as a business and create even more wonderful gardens.”
