Set within the grounds of an elegant Georgian property, this project centred around creating a garden that felt perfectly at home in its surroundings and enhancing the way its owners love to live, providing spaces for entertaining, relaxing and enjoying nature. With a love of traditional materials, beautiful plants and local wildlife, the clients wanted a garden that would take them on a journey through the natural landscape and bring joy and enjoyment for their family and friends for years to come while complementing the character of their house.
Incorporating a central pathway beneath a pergola, the design leads naturally through a series of distinct spaces, each with its own character and purpose, from the soft prettiness of a sunken rose garden to comfy seating and dining areas. Strong symmetry throughout reflect the Georgian architecture – including the curved lawn emulating the property’s arched windows – while limestone paving, rustic brickwork and layered, textured planting gradually give way to gravel paths and woodland walks, creating a softer, more natural feel the further you move from the house.
The planting scheme combines year-round structure with seasonal interest, using roses, avenue trees and evergreen shrubs alongside bulbs, perennials and woodland planting to create season-round texture, colour and biodiversity throughout the garden. The result is a landscape that feels timeless and traditional as well as contemporary and designed to be lived in, providing a beautiful setting for entertaining, quiet moments and everyday enjoyment.
